8 or 4 Legged Octopus Applique

8 or 4 Legged Octopus Applique

this cute octopus would be great on pillows, hats, blankets, mittens, scarfs and so much more!


















Abbreviations/Need to know

  • 1st ch 2 or ch 1 never counts as 1st dc or sc
  • sc- single crochet
  • dc- double crochet
  • ch- chain
  • sl st- slip stitch
  • st(s)- stitch(s)
  • sc dec- single crochet decrease 
  • use caron simply soft yarn
  • g-hook
  • ( )- number of stitches
  • [ ]-repeat whats inside











Head and 1st 4 Legs

  1. make a magic circle, dc 12 times inside magic circle, pull tight join in 1st dc (12dc)
  2. ch 2, 2 dc in 1st st, [2 dc in next st] repeat 9 more times, 3 dc in last st, join in 1st dc (25dc) (head made)
  3. ch 15, 1 sc in 1st 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the last 9 sts, sl st into same st in head (16sc) (leg 1 made)
  4. ch 15, 1 sc in 1st 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the last 5 sts, sl st into next st in head (16sc) (leg 2 made)
  5. ch 15, 1 sc in 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the last 6 sts, sl st into next st of head (19sc) (leg 3 made)
  6. ch 19, 1 sc in 1st 3 sts, [sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat 2 more times, 1 sc in each of the last 9 sts, sl st into next st in head, tie off (15sc)

Next 4 Legs Optional

  1. ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, and each st across, turn (4sc) 
  2. follow leg 1 (2nd leg 1 made)
  3. follow leg 2 (2nd leg 2 made)
  4. ch 15, 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next 2 sts, 1 sc in last 11 sts, sl st in to next st (16sc) (2nd leg 3 made)
  5. ch 19, 1 sc in 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, [sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat 1 more time, 1 sc in next 2 sts, sc dec across next 2 sts, 1 sc in last 6 sts, sl st into last st, tie off (16sc) (2nd leg 4 made)  now sew the legs to the head and other legs and your read to use your applique on what ever you want enjoy :)
