V Stitch Granny Square and or Mofit



What You Need and Need to Know
H- hook
Caron Simply Soft
-this is what I used to make the pattern but like all granny squares this is able to be worked with any yarn and any hook of your choosing
-repeat whats in the [ ] and ( ) hold number of stitches and info you need to know

Abbreviations
ch- chain
sc- single crochet
dc- double crochet
st(s)- stitch(s)
sp- space
sl st- slip stitch

vst- v stitch (1dc,1ch,1dc, all in same st)

Row 1
ch 5, sl st in 1st ch (circle made)
Row 2
ch 4, (1st dc & 1st ch sp of 1st vst) 1 dc into circle (vst made), ch 2 (corner made) [vst into circle, ch 2] repeat 2 more times, sl st in 3rd ch of 1st ch 4 (4 vsts, 4 corners)
row 3
ch 4, 1 dc in 1st vst of previous row (1st vst made), vst, ch2, vst all in corner of previous row, [vst in next vst of previous row, vst, ch 2, vst all in next corner of previous row] repeat 2 more times, sl st in 3rd ch of first ch 4 (12 vsts, 4 corners)
row 4

Cozy Giraffe

Cozy Giraffe Hat

Materials

H- hook
Yellow yarn
Brown yarn
Needle to sew in ends

Abbreviations

 dc- double crochet
 ch- chain
 hdc- half double crochet
 sc- single crochet
 sl st- slip stitch
 st- stitch
 sts- stitches
 trc- triple crochet
dc dec- double crochet decrease
 sc dec- single crochet decrease
( )- needed info or number of stitches
[ ]- repeat what’s in brackets

Hat
in yellow

Round 1: Make a magic loop/circle ch 3 (counts as first dc) and dc into magic loop/circle 9 times for a total of 10 dc

Round 2: going in a round do not join dc 2 into each st around (20dc)   

Round 3: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next st] repeat around (30dc)

Round 4: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts] repeat around (40dc) (now if only making a hat to fit 0-3m skip to row 8)                                                                     

Round 5: [dc 2 in next st, 1dc in next 3 sts] repeat around (50dc) (skip to row 8 for 6m hat)

Round 6: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 4 sts] repeat around (60dc) (skip to row 8 for 12m hat)

Round 7: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 5 sts] repeat around (70dc) (this makes 2year/2t hat)

Round 8: dc in each st around until hat is at almost desired length the hdc in next st sc in next st and sl st in last st tie off

now attach brown after hat is almost to desired length and hdc in each st around, tie off and sew in ends the hat part is now finished

Horns make 2
In brown

Round 1: make magic circle, dc 10 times into magic circle and pull tight and join in first dc (10dc)

Round 2: ch 2 (does not count as 1st dc), [2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st] repeat around until last 2 sts , 2 dc in each of the last 2 sts join in first dc (16dc)

Round 3: ch 1, hdc in each st around, join in 1st hdc and change to yellow (16dc)

Round 4: ch 2, in front loops only, [dc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st dc (12dc)

Round 5: ch2, dc in each st around, join in 1st dc (12dc)

Round 6: repeat round 5 (12dc)

Round 7: ch 2, [dc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st dc (9dc)

Round 8: ch 2, dc in each  st around, join in 1st dc, tie off leaving long end to sew with latter

Ears make 2
In yellow

Round 1: make magic circle, sc 4 times into magic circle, pull tight, join in 1st sc (4sc)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (8sc)

Round 3: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (8sc)

Round 4: ch 1, [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 5: ch 1, [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 6: ch 1 [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (20sc)

Round 7: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (20 sc)

Round 8-10: repeat round 7 (20sc)

Round 11: ch 1, [sc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 12: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 13: ch 1,[sc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 14: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 15: repeat round 14

After round 15 tie off leaving long tail to sew with, now pinch the bottom of the ears together and sew them together so it has a crease in the middle of the ear, this finishes the shaping of the ears and they will be ready to sew onto your hat!

In brown

Spot 1
Row 1: ch 5, dc in 3rd ch from hook, and each st across, tie off (3dc)

Spot 2
Round 1: make magic circle, dc 10 times into magic circle, join in 1st dc (10dc)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in 1st st, hdc in 2nd st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, trc in next st, tie off (1sc, 1hdc, 2dc, 1 trc)

Spot 3
Row 1: ch 5, dc in 3erd ch from hook, and each st across, turn (3dc)
Row 2: ch 2, 2dc in each st across, tie off (6dc)


Now all you have to do is sew it all together and you have and adorable Giraffe hat for everyday use or a great photo prop!

ch- chain
sc- single crochet
hdc- half dubble crochet

Green, Black, White, Grey, and Red yarn
(I used carron simply soft)

Note: This pattern calls for Single Crochet Foundation Stitch where you make your starting row of sc and you starting ch’s at the same time you can find great tutorials on YouTube on how to make this stitch.
 Head in Green

1-     ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across (15sc) turn
2-     ch1, sc in each st across (15sc) turn
3-16- repeat row 2
17- ch 1, sl st in 1st st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in last st, (2 sl st, 4sc, 6hdc, 3dc) do not turn
18- continuing around ch 1, sl st into 1st st/sp, and using best judgment in placement repeat row 17 tie off

Body in Green working in a U shape

1-     single crochet foundation stitch 7 times (7sc, 7ch sps) turn
2-     ch 1, sc in 1st 4 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, continuing around put 1 hdc in the end, hdc inc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last 4 sts (8sc, 9hdc) turn
3-     ch 1, sc in 1st 4 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, hdc inc in next 4 sts, hdc in next st, sc in last 5 sts, (9sc, 12hdc) do not turn
4-     neck continuing on body on flat side, ch 1, make 4 sc in flat piece (4sc) turn
5-     ch 1, sc dec across (2sc) turn
6-     ch 1, sc dec across (1sc) tie off

Tong in Red

1-     ch 4, sc in 2en ch from hook, sc in each st across(3sc) turn
2-     ch 1, sc in each st across (3sc) tie off


Eyes in White working in continues rounds make 2

1-     make magic circle, ch 1, make 6 sc inside magic circle pull tight (6sc)
2-     sc inc in each st around (12sc)
3-     sc inc in each st around (24sc)
4-     sc inc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, repeat around (32sc) sl st into next st tie off

Legs In Black make 2

1-     sc foundation st 4 times (4sc, 4ch sps) turn
2-     ch 1, sc in each st across (4sc) now continuing around working in a U shape put 2 sc in the end, and 1 sc in each st across the other side for a total of 10 sc tie off

Arms In Black make 2

1-     ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each st across (4sc) turn
2-     ch 1, sc in each st across (4sc) tie off

Ears, Nose and Middle of eyes in Black Felt

1-     cut out tiny circles for middle of eyes
2-     cut out small oval for nose
3-     take cartoon picture of Gir provided on top and print out a 5x7 picture take that picture and cut out the ears and use paper Gir ears to trace on felt and cut out
(I used sticky felt so it was really easy to trace on the paper on the back and I made two of each ear and placed them together so felt was on both sides and one side wasn't sticky lol)

Assembly

1-     take the bulgy square we made for the head and make sure the bulgy sides are pointing up and to the right, now take the bottom left corner and tack it up, to make the chin see picture above for guidelines
2-     now take tong and sew it in the middle of the bottom of head and sew it on to the back loops of the bottom of the head so you cant see the sts of sewing it in
3-     now take black yarn and sew the middle piece of the tong on and the sts up the middle of the head see picture above for guidelines
4-     take body and grey yarn and sew in the zipper piece see bottom picture for guidelines
5-     sew body onto chin piece see picture above
6-     sew eyes onto head on either side of the stitching see picture above for guidelines
7-     sew arms and legs onto body see picture below for guidelines
8-     now take a hot glue gun and glue zipper onto top of the zipper part we sewed in and take the middle of the eyes and glue them onto the eyes in some what random places and glue nose on in the middle of eyes on second st of middle of head piece see picture above for guidelines
9-    now very lastly take a regular needle and black thread and sew his ears to the top of his head see picture above for guidelines and your done now your ready to display your Gir or sew him on to anything you like hope you like him and Happy Hooking J
