Cozy Giraffe

Cozy Giraffe Hat

Materials

H- hook
Yellow yarn
Brown yarn
Needle to sew in ends

Abbreviations

 dc- double crochet
 ch- chain
 hdc- half double crochet
 sc- single crochet
 sl st- slip stitch
 st- stitch
 sts- stitches
 trc- triple crochet
dc dec- double crochet decrease
 sc dec- single crochet decrease
( )- needed info or number of stitches
[ ]- repeat what’s in brackets

Hat
in yellow

Round 1: Make a magic loop/circle ch 3 (counts as first dc) and dc into magic loop/circle 9 times for a total of 10 dc

Round 2: going in a round do not join dc 2 into each st around (20dc)   

Round 3: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next st] repeat around (30dc)

Round 4: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts] repeat around (40dc) (now if only making a hat to fit 0-3m skip to row 8)                                                                     

Round 5: [dc 2 in next st, 1dc in next 3 sts] repeat around (50dc) (skip to row 8 for 6m hat)

Round 6: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 4 sts] repeat around (60dc) (skip to row 8 for 12m hat)

Round 7: [dc 2 in next st, 1 dc in next 5 sts] repeat around (70dc) (this makes 2year/2t hat)

Round 8: dc in each st around until hat is at almost desired length the hdc in next st sc in next st and sl st in last st tie off

now attach brown after hat is almost to desired length and hdc in each st around, tie off and sew in ends the hat part is now finished

Horns make 2
In brown

Round 1: make magic circle, dc 10 times into magic circle and pull tight and join in first dc (10dc)

Round 2: ch 2 (does not count as 1st dc), [2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st] repeat around until last 2 sts , 2 dc in each of the last 2 sts join in first dc (16dc)

Round 3: ch 1, hdc in each st around, join in 1st hdc and change to yellow (16dc)

Round 4: ch 2, in front loops only, [dc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st dc (12dc)

Round 5: ch2, dc in each st around, join in 1st dc (12dc)

Round 6: repeat round 5 (12dc)

Round 7: ch 2, [dc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st dc (9dc)

Round 8: ch 2, dc in each  st around, join in 1st dc, tie off leaving long end to sew with latter

Ears make 2
In yellow

Round 1: make magic circle, sc 4 times into magic circle, pull tight, join in 1st sc (4sc)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (8sc)

Round 3: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (8sc)

Round 4: ch 1, [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 5: ch 1, [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 6: ch 1 [2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (20sc)

Round 7: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (20 sc)

Round 8-10: repeat round 7 (20sc)

Round 11: ch 1, [sc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 12: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (16sc)

Round 13: ch 1,[sc dec across 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 14: ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Round 15: repeat round 14

After round 15 tie off leaving long tail to sew with, now pinch the bottom of the ears together and sew them together so it has a crease in the middle of the ear, this finishes the shaping of the ears and they will be ready to sew onto your hat!

Spots make 2 of each
In brown

Spot 1
Row 1: ch 5, dc in 3rd ch from hook, and each st across, tie off (3dc)

Spot 2
Round 1: make magic circle, dc 10 times into magic circle, join in 1st dc (10dc)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in 1st st, hdc in 2nd st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, trc in next st, tie off (1sc, 1hdc, 2dc, 1 trc)

Spot 3
Row 1: ch 5, dc in 3erd ch from hook, and each st across, turn (3dc)
Row 2: ch 2, 2dc in each st across, tie off (6dc)


Now all you have to do is sew it all together and you have and adorable Giraffe hat for everyday use or a great photo prop!
