Mouse Plush or Refillable Cat Nip Toy


I made this little guy because my cat loves loves loves cat nip, and all those cat nip toys get spendy! Also he doesn't seem to like any of the refillable toys our local (by local I mean 30 min away) Walmart. So I went to work on this cute mouse, and I am very happy with the results hope you are too! :)

Will Need/Need to Know
  • G hook
  • red heart super saver yarn
  • needle to sew in ends and sew together
  • fiber fill or cat nip
  • button (optional)
  • safety eyes (optional)
  • [ ] - repeat whats inside
  • 1st chain does not count as 1st stitch
  • magic circle can be replaced with a chain 2, then crocheting the number of stitches necessary in the 2nd chain from the hook

Abbreviations
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(s)
sc- single crochet
dc- double crohet
hdc- half double corchet
trc- treble crochet
sc dec- single crochet
sl st- slip stitch

Gauge 8 sitches by 4 rows= 2in
  1. ch 10, dc in 2nd ch from hook, and each st across, turn (8dc)
  2. ch 1, 1 dc in each st across, turn (8dc)
  3. repeat 2
  4. repeat 2 tie off

Body
  1. make a magic circle, sc 6 times inside magic circle, pull tight, join in 1st sc (6sc)
  2. ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)
  3. ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around, join in 1st sc (18sc)
  4. ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc each of the next 2 sts, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (24sc)
  5. ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (24sc)
  6. repeat 5
  7. repeat 5
  8. repeat 5
  9. repeat 5
  10. repeat 5
  11. ch 1, 1 sc in each of the 1st 2 sts, sc dec across the next 2 sts, [1sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (18sc)
  12. ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (18sc)
  13. repeat 12
  14. ch 1, 1 sc in 1st st, sc dec across next 2 sts, [1 sc in next st, sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (12sc)
  15. ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)
  16. repeat 15, tie off

Tail
  1. connect yarn to fat end of body, ch 21, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, and each st across, sl st back into body to secure tightly, tie off

Head and Muzzle
  1. ch 12, join in 1st ch, ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)
  2. ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around, join in 1st sc (18sc)
  3. ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc each of the next 2 sts, [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (24sc)
  4. ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (24sc)
  5. repeat 4
  6. ch 1, 1 sc in each of the 1st 2 sts, sc dec across the next 2 sts, [1sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat around, join in 1st sc (18sc)
  7. ch 1, sc dec across 1st 2 sts, [sc dec across next 2 sts] repeat 3 more times,1 dc in each of the next 6 sts, sc dec across last 2 sts, join in 1st sc (12sc)
  8. muzzle, ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc (12sc)

Ears -make 2
  1. ch 5, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc & 1 trc all in next st, 1 trc & 2 dc all in next st, hdc in last st, tie off (2hdc, 4dc, 2 trc)

Nose
  1. make magic circle, 3 sc inside magic circle, join in 1st sc (3sc)
  2. ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in 1st sc, tie off (6sc)

Assembly
  • before we go on please remember if this item is for a child or a cat to securely sew/attach all pieces tightly
  • attach or sew on eyes on flat part of head
  • attach ears to either side of the head
  • attach nose to tip of muzzle
  • stuff head and body with fiber fill if for plush
  • if for plush sew head to body and sew in all ends and your done enjoy, if for cat nip toy go on
  • on opening in head connect by muzzle ch 4, sl st back into same st button hole made
  • sew button to bottom of body by opening
  • sew top half of head to body and leave a small opening for putting cat nip in like in picture at bottom
  • sew in all ends

  4. You could omit the button and fill with dried and then sew it. Occasionally rub it with fresh to make them happy
